Family Life (hard)
By Fr Anselm J. Viano, S.S.V.
The disorganization and disruption of family life is more than a result of the present world disorder. It is, in fact, a condition symptomatic of many of the ills of the day, ills which have culminated in terrible upheaval and cataclysm which we see going on about us. In times like these men sigh for a return to normal conditions. But too few of them recognize that this return must be preceded by an acceptance on our part of certain fundamental truths on which are based the enduring values of our civilization. Chief among these truths is a proper understanding and estimation of the meaning of the Christian Family. Whether in a given land the Church is to abide depends not on external things, not even on whether church buildings and convents are destroyed, nor even in the last resort on the ecclesiastical hierarchy, but upon this, that the men and women who administered to one another the Sacraments of Matrimony, from the grace of this sacrament transform their families into little churches. That—no more, no less—is in this hour the one thing needful. In writing this book Father Viano has set as his aim not the production of a learned academic treatise, but the presentation of what the Christian Family can and should mean to all of us. 372pp, hardcover, Impr.
